Don Lewis
Director of Physician Services
The Director of Physician Services role was created both to maintain positive relations with established healthcare providers at the facility as well as attract new medical staff to the region. As part of the hospital’s strategic initiatives, the Director is a liaison between the doctors and the Administration, ensuring that we are working to meet the county’s ever-growing need for healthcare.
In November 2007, Don Lewis accepted this new role and joined the St. Mary’s Hospital Administrative team. With 12 years of executive and management level experience in healthcare, he comes to our facility from Deerfield Beach, Florida where he served as the Physician Services Manager for Broward Health. While there, Don was responsible for the overall management of physician services, including recruitment, redirection, orientation office practice operations and new business development. Working within a 409-bed Level II trauma center, he gained a keen understanding of the challenges associated with managing competing priorities.
He says, “My goal as the Director of Physician Services at St. Mary’s Hospital, in conjunction with the Board and Medical Staff’s vision and strategic initiatives, is attracting physicians to meet the community and hospital needs in the Southern Maryland region. Additionally, my aim is to enhance the way in which we retain those physicians who have chosen to practice here at St. Mary's Hospital. As physicians near retirement age and the baby boomer population steadily increases, SMH must be responsive to retaining both the number of healthcare providers and the types of specialists who will be needed by our community. Our bottom line is to deliver quality care while attracting and retaining individuals who have a true passion for making a difference in their community.”
Don is a graduate of Ohio University with a Bachelor of Science in Health and Human Services. Before moving to Maryland, he was an active member of several leadership committees, professional organizations and advisory boards. He currently resides in Leonardtown with his wife, Lisa and their two children, Chase and Connor. |
