Are you interested in a healthcare career? The St. Mary's Hospital Foundation can help you achieve your educational goals! Since 2001, the Foundation has been awarding scholarships to Southern Maryland candidates interested in pursuing a nursing career. This past year, the Foundation accepted applications from individuals who were interested in the growing field of allied health. These professionals are involved in many aspects of healthcare, including:
- Nursing
- Radiology
- Respiratory Therapy
- Ultrasound
- Laboratory Technology
- and many more!
Each of the scholarships awarded cover payment for tuition, books and fees associated with the degree or certification. Applications for the Foundation Scholarship will be available during the month of September, and can be picked up in the Human Resources Department of the hospital.
A Rewarding Career in Healthcare: Scholarships Pave the Way
St. Mary’s Hospital recognizes the critical need for specially trained employees. In keeping with our CARE with RESPECT values, the hospital has designed an Employee Scholarship Program for employees who seek an educational degree, license or certification that is essential to the care of our patients.
St. Mary’s Hospital provides scholarships in return for service for critical positions such as registered nurses, imaging technologists, physical therapists, respiratory therapists, medical records coders, lab technologists, and pharmacists.
Through a grant with the Health Services Cost Review Commission, the hospital also funds scholarships for RNs who wish to complete their Bachelor of Science degree in nursing. For information on these exciting opportunities, please call 301-475-6017.
Scholarship Application Requirements:
- The Foundation scholarship is only for residents of Southern Maryland: Charles,
St. Mary's and Calvert counties.
- You must have at least a 3.0 high school GPA if applying within four years of high school graduation.
- Must submit an ACT score if it has been more than four years since high school graduation, or proof of degree from another school. (This program is not exclusively focusing on high-school aged students; many receive a scholarship as a second career.)
- In turn for receiving the scholarship, recipients will commit to working at SMH for at least 24 months. [page 4 of packet/application]
