First Aid

Do you know what to do in an emergency?  Participants receive an American Health and Safety Institute completion card at the end of the course. Fee.

Heart Saver CPR/AED
March 3, April 7 & 25, May 5, 5:30 to 9:30 p.m., and on March 22 & May 17, 8 a.m. to Noon, Health Connections. 

Designed by American Heart Association, Heart Saver will teach lay rescuers CPR, how to use an AED and foreign object airway obstruction removal for adults, children and infants. Fee.

On April 5, Heart Saver CPR for the Safe Sitter program will be presented from 8 a.m. to noon.

Specially designed for our Safe Sitter graduates.  This class teaches American Heart Saver CPR with AED.

Simple Steps to Permanent Weight Loss
Ten week course Wednesdays, April 2 through May 7 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., Health Connections.

This ten-week weight management program includes a personalized nutrition plan and body composition analysis.  As a bonus, any participant who accomplishes his or her individual weight loss goals will be refunded $50 of the course fee!

Keeping Current: Diabetes Education

Learning to live well with diabetes is a life long process.  The Diabetes Educators at St. Mary’s Hospital invite past participants of the Diabetes Education Program to a free follow-up class on “Healthy Habits: Good Carbs, Better Carbs.  Simple Carbohydrate Counting.”  Space is limited.  Please call for class dates and times and to register.

If you are a new mom who could use the support of other nursing mothers, attend this free support group facilitated by Lactation Consultants.

Infant Massage
Three-week series starting March 25 and again on May 2, 10 a.m. to Noon, Health Connections.

This program is designed to teach parents to calm children through massage and is especially helpful for babies with colic. Infants must be at least three weeks old. Call to register. Fee.

March 24 & May 19, 7 to 8:30 p.m., Health Connections.

Learn how the brain develops during the first three years of life and how to be ready for each stage of development. This course explores how parents can maximize their child’s intellectual and emotional potential.

Movin’ Moms
Thursdays beginning on March 6, 10 to 11 a.m., Health Connections.

A fun way to get back into shape and spend some quality time with your new baby! We combine cardiovascular activity with strength training to encourage a healthy lifestyle for new moms. Participants should be at least six weeks postpartum.  Come to class with your baby, a stroller, and a towel or yoga mat. Doctor’s release is required to participate.  Register now!  Fee.

Child Passenger Safety Seat Check
March 10, April 14 & May 12, 4 to 7 p.m., Lexington Park Volunteer Rescue Squad Co. 38; March 13, April 10 & May 8, 4 to 7 p.m., Leonardtown Rescue Squad. 

Certified Passenger Safety Technicians will inspect and teach parents how to properly install car seats. Presented in cooperation with the St. Mary’s Highway Safety Team. Free service is by appointment only.
